Washington DC
I've only been to Washington once, but from my understanding it is somehow both one of the simplest and grandest cities in the world. Decorated with national monuments larger than life, museums exploring art, science, and history all at once, and picturesque views at every turn, every spot in this city requires your full attention and appreciation. The work of great leaders, inventors, thinkers, and more dominate the city, and in a way, you feel much smaller beside these giants. Yet at the same time, there's a peace and glory that comes from strolling humble streets, gazing upon Reflecting Pool and the feeling that maybe, just maybe, you too are capable of the greatness that so many who have walked here before your have achieved.

Photo Spot
Lincoln Memorial at sunrise-
The view is spectacular, the few people up this early are just early morning joggers, and you have Lincoln and the pool almost all to yourself

Night Time
It's one thing to walk around and see all the monuments and stiff during the day, but the effect at night is that much cooler. This city knows a thing or two about proper lighting.

Memories
01.
"Stick with Dale"
Probably the best tour guide I've ever had. There's a lot to see in Washington and it's hard to know where to start, so having a guy like Dale show us around was a wonderful experience. Dale was both extremely knowledgeable and a charming, funny old man with a witty personality and a love for history. There were only three rules to follow: 1) stick with Dale; 2) stick with Dale; and 3) stick with Dale (which has since become an inside joke between my cousin and I).

03.
Sunrise in Washington
The nation's capital is filled with thousands of tourists all competing for the best views and pictures, but to truly make the most of it the best way to see the city is getting up early. Being the early bird has it's perks: you experience a much calmer and serene Washington with fewer crowds and more beauty. There's something special about watching the sun rise over Reflecting Pool and seeing the city come alive bit by bit, and I can't recommend it enough.

02.
Arlington Tour
You don't really think about a cemetery as being a high priority for a tour unless you're really into Halloween (at least I don't), but visiting Arlington was an incredibly eye-opening experience I'll never forget. There's a certain chill knowing that thousands gave their lives so that you may stand here in peace, and whatever political views you may hold, you stand thankful that every one here fought to make this country better.
